I’m Aaron, a software engineer in Portland, Oregon. Most recently, I built fleet-monitoring
and mapping tools at Locus Robotics. Before that, I spent seven years leading infotainment
software development at Jaguar Land Rover. I also design and sell small electronics.
Designed and delivered the company’s first browser-based mapping interface, replacing a workflow
that required desktop RViz and shell access to the robot.
On a separate floor-setup problem, I worked with customer success to distinguish tooling
fixes from robot software changes. The result: an order of magnitude fewer queue points
and setup reduced from 20–30 minutes per aisle to a couple of minutes.
Mapping services +
On-robot services launched the mapping stack on demand and retrieved rosbag
recordings, replacing manual SSH workflows.

Fleet monitoring at Locus
Built floor-monitoring tools that brought live robot positions and floor-state telemetry
into the browser. Used by 150 people across robotics, hardware, customer success, and the
wider company.

Implementation notes +
I built both the clients and on-robot services behind the tools, with WebSockets via
rosbridge and a Django backend on AWS. I worked across robotics, hardware, and
platform teams to expose the data while preserving the existing security model.
Testing against live data and in-house simulation made development possible without
physical robots. I also introduced frontend testing and extended CI workflows.

Infotainment at Jaguar Land Rover
Range Rover in a driving simulator.
Led a team delivering in-vehicle infotainment applications, from interaction design through
production delivery. Web technologies met native Qt/QML on embedded Linux.
Engineering & leadership +
Shipped applications spanning sign-in, weather, media, HVAC, and download
management. Established version-control and code-review workflows and ran biweekly
instructional sessions on testing and software patterns.
Built an Amazon Echo demonstrator controlling vehicle HVAC, the convertible top, and
door locks—from concept to working demo in one week. Also led an internal
vehicle-sharing application and its Node.js API.

Electronics I design and sell
I design, manufacture, and sell electronics badge hardware. Schematic capture, PCB layout,
firmware, in-house SMT assembly, fulfillment, and support.
Projects include MacSAO, GameboySAO, and LazerTagSAO.
My work spans browser interfaces, Python services running on robots, and embedded software.
I’ve also led a software team and introduced code review and testing practices.
I enjoy working directly with the people using my tools, especially when their workflow
reveals a problem that isn’t obvious from the engineering side.
I’m interested in hands-on Senior, Lead, and Staff engineering roles, especially in robotics and
connected systems. Remote preferred.
